  • Very typical of this time of year, as supplies become more limited. Gala movement continues to be strong, along with Fuji, Granny smith & Pink Lady.

Body
  • Strawberries will remain tight---no extra supply and price should remain where it is.
  • Blues are also tight, the recent heat has lowered supply forecasts.

Body
  • The market stayed steady last week once again as supplies of both bunched and especially crowns continued to exceed demand.
  • We’re expecting the deal to stay steady again this week as shippers are reporting good supplies.
  • Overall quality remains good, but be sure to have our birddog check your orders after the recent ‘heat wave’ in the Salinas Valley..

Subject    6/24/2019 - - Cauliflower
Body
  • It looks like the fields made it through the heat with minimal damage.
  • Supplies could be slightly lighter next week, but not drastic.
  • The quality should remain good with normal weights and equal distribution among all sizes.
  • Pricing has a chance to firm, but not jump.  Not a big mover during summer, Cauliflower should continue to be an after thought versus fruit and melons.

Subject    6/24/2019 - - Iceberg Lettuce
Body
  • Continued affects from last weeks heat are still causing quality issues with the Iceberg lettuce.
  • Misshapen heads, sun scalding and irregular weights are prevalent in most fields.
  • Quality issues in the lettuce have forced processors to secure more raw lettuce product to fill orders, thus making pricing for such items increase.
  • Pricing for Iceberg Lettuce packs will continue to be high next week.
  • Overall demand should continue steady and not increase as focus during Summer is toward more fruits and melons not necessarily lettuce.

Subject    6/24/2019 - - Avocado
Body
  • If you haven't seen or heard it yet the Market on Avocados is on fire.

  • This is regardless of the country of origin.  There is not enough crossing/arriving and harvesting to meet the need and current demand.

  • We are seeing pro-rations at this time.

  • We expect that and the market to remain this way for at least another six weeks or so.... until Mexico gets into their new crop harvest.

  • Mexico's crossing/picking numbers are down pushing the market up.

  • Demand continues strong with fruit peaking 48/60 with decreased amounts of #1 fruit.

  • We are looking at a gap between conventional crop and that Loca crop.  July will be a very volatile market.

  • We are seeing more of #2 fruit but even this is demanding big money and Organics are non-existent.

  • Expect the market to get a lot worse before it gets better.

  • Calif is harvest which is very light is peaking 48/40/60's.   Market wise everyone is the same staying strong.

  • A good chunk of crop already harvested;  as such we expect the market to continue moving up for the time being.

  • Peruvian fruit is now in with light numbers on both coasts.   Look for volume to hit its stride over the next 3 weeks.

  • This volume will take some pressure off the declining volume out of Mexico and lack of supplies out of Calif.  But we expect the market to be similar.

Subject    6/24/2019 - - Lemons
Body
  • Lemons are struggling with the excessive heat recently we are seeing increased softness and some fuzz balls at the other end.
  • Fruit is peaking on 115/140's; everyone on the hunt for 165 and smaller (big market spread between the two).
  • The small fruit will remain tight through the summer so get ready for high markets.
  • Imports are arriving from Chile and Argentina heavier to East coast.
  • The hope is this fruit will take some of the pressure off smaller sizing market.... only time will tell.
  • Look to have this fruit available for shipping into Sept.

Subject    6/24/2019 - - Melons Cantaloupe/Honeydew
Body
  • Cantaloupe supplies on the West coast are improving as the desert has hit its stride.

  • Sizing remains on the large side with good supplies of 9/jumbo 9.... small fruit such as 15/18 are very light and getting premiums.

  • Quality is good with color light tan side and eating great.  Market in general is steady to higher on smaller sizes.

  • Honeydew supplies are plentiful harvesting Mexico and Desert at this time; like the Cantaloupe these guys are on the larger side.

  • Market in general is not that great but steady.  Overall quality is good with excellent sugar/flavor.   Peaking on 5/6's.

  • Mixed melons are going well out of the desert as well and can be consolidated up to the Fresno area for your mixer orders.  Packing out 5/6's.

  • Navel have run their course.... move over to Valencia or wait for the imports.

  • Valencia harvesting and packing (short days due to extreme heat are making it go slow).

  • We are seeing some smaller sizes but don't expect them to last long.

  • All the rains Calif had this year have really grown this fruit.   Valencia increasing domestically in volume with the market remaining relatively strong.

  • Quality is good-- firm hard fruit, nice color, and good sugar levels.

  • Chile is going on the East coast and should start up on the West coast over the next 10 days.

  • The first arrivals to the East went fairly fast or were pre-committed.

  • Market is strong but this fruit looks and eats very nice at this time.  Call ahead to lock product in.
